In a video message, Pope Francis encourages artists in the music industry in particular: “I hope that this aspect of our social life is also revived, that music is played again together and that music is enjoyed. and he sing”. The reason for the message is the start of a two-day Vatican online conference on the subject of church and music.
Pope Francis paid tribute to many artists in the field of religious music in his video message. The musical heritage of the church is diverse and not only important for the liturgy, but also enriches it in free time, for example at concerts. Spiritual music can also play an important role in catechesis and in schools, Vatican Radio reported.
“However, we know that since the start of the Covid pandemic, activities in the music sector have been severely restricted. I think of everyone who has felt this: musicians whose lives and jobs have been shaken by the need to distancing; I also think of all those who have lost their jobs, of all those who lack social contacts, of all those who, in difficult conditions, contribute to the necessary training, education and community life, ”said the Holy Father.
Many have made “significant efforts” to find new ways to keep making music with new creativity regardless, even for an audience beyond the parishioners, the pope said. Nor did he forget all those who work in the background, such as concert ushers, in short: all those who are active “for music at the service of the community.”
