The first Microsoft data center in Austria could be built in Schwechat (Bruck ad Leitha district).

According to an investigation by the business magazine “Profit”, Microsoft Data Center (Austria) GmbH bought around 40,000 square meters of land to build near the central cemetery on the outskirts of Vienna.

While the group kept a low profile, Schwechat Mayor Karin Baier (SPÖ) confirmed the company’s interest in the ORF Lower Austria property. However, the area in question is privately owned and does not belong to the municipality.

The US tech group announced in October 2020 that it would invest around € 1 billion in its first cloud data center in Germany over the next two to four years. Austria will thus become one of the 64 regions of data centers of this type in the future.
