New York is preparing for the heaviest snowfall in years: In Central Park in Manhattan on Monday night (local time) already more than 40 centimeters of snowannounced the United States National Weather Service (NHS). According to weather forecasts, the snowpack in the east coast metropolis could be more than 50 centimeters high by Wednesday.

NHS meteorologist Matthew Wunsch said New York sI look forward to one of the heaviest snowfalls of all time. Since meteorological records began in 1869, Central Park’s snowpack has only been eight times more than 50 centimeters high. The previous snow record was set in January 2016 when nearly 70 centimeters of fresh snow fell in three days.

After the first snowfall in Washington, the US Weather Service warned of a heavy snowstorm in the northeastern United States on Monday and Tuesday.
