The succession dispute over the inheritance of the Viennese artist Franz West has been resolved. The Supreme Court awarded the art heritage and private art collection to West’s sister, who must transfer everything to the Franz West Private Foundation.
The foundation’s board of directors wants the works of art to be made accessible to the international public as soon as possible through exhibitions, loans, catalogs, scientific works and a complete rationale. “It is the largest collection of works by Franz West in the world offering a comprehensive overview of all of Franz West’s work. After Franz West Privatstiftung initially ruled on his appeal to the Supreme Court (OGH) in November 2018, Franz West’s sister started her own proceedings. The objective was to rightly acknowledge that in challenging the transfer of the works of art to the Franz West Private Foundation, the will of the testator was not respected and, therefore, against the will of Franz West, so that the sister, as heir, He was entitled to all real estate. This procedure has now been decided by the Supreme Court.
