Virtual tour to Zipf: left-wing youth remember the Holocaust in Vöcklabruck

On the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz, the Junge Linken drew attention to the National Socialist crimes in the Vöcklabruck district.

DISTRICT. The Auschwitz concentration camp was liberated 76 years ago, on January 27, 1945. The death camp still represents the crimes of National Socialism today. On this occasion, the Junge Linken invite Vöcklabruck to take a commemorative walk to remember what happened in Vöcklabruck during the Nazi regime.

Lively commemorative culture

“With each year that has passed since the end of the Holocaust, it becomes more difficult to address this chapter of our history because there are fewer and fewer contemporary witnesses who can tell their experiences,” says Katja Hufnagl (20), Spokesperson for the Young Left Vöcklabruck . “To support a living culture of remembrance, we have to remember what happened in our community, at our doorstep.” Showing how the Holocaust happened in places you visit every day makes the story easier to understand.

History of the inmates

Due to the current situation in Corona, the memorial walk is available online on the “izi.Travel” platform. To participate in the free public tour, you must go to the website jungelinke.at/voecklabruck. The virtual memorial walk leads from the old train station through the old “transformer bunker” to the concentration camp memorial at Zipf Parish Church. During the walk the story of the prisoners of war imprisoned here is told.
