The mountain rescue team had to move last Sunday for a mission at the Hirschkogel in Forsteralm. A 30-year-old snowshoe hiker in a group of six, who was in the Forsteralm on touring skis and snowshoes in the morning, fell so miserably just below the 1,078-meter-high Hirschkogel summit that he suffered a shoulder dislocation.
Mountain rescue men from Amstetten and Waidhofen, who were on site for track service at the Forsteralm ski lift, took on the task and were able to provide first aid to the injured in the shortest time possible.
To ensure that the man was transported as smoothly and as painlessly as possible, an emergency medic helicopter was called in, which could land in the vicinity of the injured man. After the injured person received emergency medical treatment, he was airlifted to hospital.
On weekends, holidays and during the holidays, mountain rescuers are on site when the lifts are in operation at the Forsteralm. On weekdays and outside of business hours, as well as in the open ski area, there can naturally be longer wait times in the event of accidents before a mountain rescuer can reach an injured person. Therefore, the mountain rescue appeals to all winter sports enthusiasts to bring enough warm clothing in addition to the appropriate emergency equipment.
