Sofia Goggia makes the competition look old in the St. Anton downhill. In typical Goggia fashion, the Italian won the race, about a second ahead of the rest of the world.

Sofia Goggia showed her class on the relatively short but technically demanding “Karl Schranz” track at St. Anton: the world downhill champion put everything on one card, driving up and away from her competitors, especially from the center section. The 28-year-old celebrated her ninth World Cup victory with a lead of just under a second, ahead of Tamara Tippler (AUT) and Breezy Johnson (USA). With this, Goggia has taken the sole lead in the Downhill World Cup after Corinne Suter finished fifth, while it is Tippler’s 1st podium in a relegation.

Laura Pirovano showed a great performance, the 23-year-old from Madonna di Campiglio crossed the finish line in fifth place after a brave push and thus secured her best World Cup result. Slalom queen Petra Vlhova (SVK) also performed well, missing the top 10 by 1.7 seconds. Nicol Delago, a native of Val Gardena, offered an attractive route in the upper part of the route, but lost a lot of time on the arrival slope.

Fun detail: Winner Goggia is 0.96 seconds ahead of Tippler in second place, followed by more than 20 runners in one second.

On Sunday, the Super-G is on the show at St. Anton.
