The St. Pölten-based furniture chain kika / Leiner wants to catch up with online sales and has relaunched the kika.at and leiner.at websites. This has made online shopping easier to use, the company said on Friday.
So far, the share of Internet commerce has been “below average”, the goal is to achieve a ten percent share in three to five years, kika / Leiner said on Friday at the request of the Austrian Press Agency.
The managing director of kika / Leiner, Reinhold Gütebier, wants in particular to oppose foreign competition. “Regionality is particularly important in online commerce, because short transport routes protect the environment and purchases from Austrian companies strengthen the local economy,” Gütebier wrote in a company press release. More than 25,000 items are available in web stores, and promotions and discounts in furniture stores are also valid online.
During the coronavirus pandemic, Kika and Leiner’s online access numbers have already risen sharply in recent months. In the first weeks of the lockdown in March 2020, online purchases for both brands increased eightfold, according to the broadcast. Purchased furniture can be delivered or picked up at a branch using Click & Collect.
