Innsbruck (SID) – Ski jumper Karl Geiger suffered a bitter setback in the battle for overall victory at the 69th Four Hills Tournament. The Oberstdorfer landed on the treacherous Bergisel in Innsbruck in the first round at just 117.0 m (109.2 points) and probably squandered all hopes of tour victory as 30th at halftime.

Markus Eisenbichler (Siegsdorf) did not exceed 120.5m (119.4) and also lost a lot of ground in 15th position. At the top is Kamil Stoch (Poland), who took the lead in the virtual general classification with a jump to 127.5 m (131.7).

Norway’s top star Halvor Egner Granerud also crashed completely unexpectedly in 29th place at 116.5m (111.9). Geiger fell back to fourth place overall. Defending champion Dawid Kubacki (126.0 m / 126.0) from Poland also edged Geiger and Granerud in fifth place.

Martin Hamann (Aue / 130.0 m) easily qualified for the second round in good wind conditions as the best DSV eagle in eighth position on his debut in Innsbruck. Former world champion Severin Freund (Rastbüchl) in 34th and Pius Paschke (Kiefersfelden) in 36th have already retired.

Constantin Schmid (Oberaudorf) experienced another disappointment, the world runner-up in ski flying with the team clearly missed the second round in 39th place, as in Oberstdorf and Garmisch-Partenkirchen.
