Spain has specified its information in a registry of all citizens who do not want to be vaccinated against the Crown. The ministry announced on Tuesday that it was only a matter of registering the clinical data of citizens who were invited to a vaccination appointment and who also appeared, but then expressly rejected the vaccination.
“This information is collected to determine whether the fact that a person was not vaccinated was due to a personal choice, a system failure or was not invited,” the ministry continued. The registry is not public and the data protection regulations are strictly complied with.
Health Minister Salvador Illa said the data could be shared with the EU if so decided in the future, his ministry said. This is also the case for other vaccines if, for example, international vaccination certificates are issued. Vaccination is definitely voluntary. In Spain, there were initially no major reactions to Illa’s announcement that it would register people who did not want to be vaccinated.
In the country that was particularly affected by the Crown crisis, as in other EU countries, the vaccination campaign against Covid-19 began on Sunday. The first Spanish to be vaccinated was Araceli Hidalgo, 96, in Guadalajara. For the next twelve weeks, the Madrid government foresees a total of around 4.6 million additional doses of vaccine, with which almost 2.3 million of the 47 million citizens of Spain will be vaccinated. Most of the population should be immunized before summer.
