The transfer of Stefan Maierhofer from FC Flyeralarm Admira to Würzbürger Kickers in the second German Bundesliga was officially confirmed on Monday afternoon, the 19th season of the cult forward’s career.
The 38-year-old attacker will join the Würzburg team on a free transfer in a few days, when the transfer window opens. The “older” has traveled extensively in his career, starting the Maierhofer path at SV Gablitz and Tulln, where he played in his youth.
The 2.02m tall attacker was put into FC Bayern reserve in 2005 via First Vienna and Langenrohr. Maierhofer was a regular player in the German regional league and spent almost two years with Munich fans. This was followed by positions at TuS Koblenz and Greuther Fürth in the second German Bundesliga, before Maierhofer moved to SK Rapid Vienna.
Together with Erwin Hoffer, Maierhofer formed the best storm duo in the national Bundesliga and became champion with Hütteldorfer in the 2007/08 season. In the summer of 2009, the storm tank first ventured into England when it joined the Premier League-promoted Wolverhampton Wanderers. After a brief interlude at Bristol City, Maierhofer returned to the second Bundesliga and went to MSV Duisburg.
In the summer of 2011, FC Red Bull Salzburg signed Stefan Maierhofer. In the 2011/12 season he won the double with Salzburg and was the Bundesliga’s top scorer with 14 goals. In January 2013, Maierhofer signed a contract with 1. FC Köln, later with FC Milwall, SC Wiener Neustadt, AS Trencin in Slovakia and SV Mattersburg.

In January 2020, Maierhofer returned to the typical Bundesliga when WSG Tirol signed him. The switch to Admira followed in the summer of 2020, where he was unable to give any momentum on the field.
