The issue of the controversial exclusion of Polish ski jumpers from the inaugural competition of the Four Hills Tournament could take a new twist. As also confirmed by the Polish Sports Ministry on Monday evening, another Klemens Muranka crown test, which tested positive on Sunday, came back negative.

So if the original result turns out to be a false positive, the Poles want to push their team’s resumption around defending champion Dawid Kubacki and two-time overall winner Kamil Stoch on the tour. To do this, another series of tests was carried out on the Polish team on Monday evening, the results of which should be available on Tuesday. The Polish Ministry of Sports has guaranteed its support to the President of the Ski Federation, Apoloniusz Tajner.

After Muranka’s positive test, employees of the Oberallgäu health department visited the hotel of the Polish team on Monday morning and, after an examination, classified all the teammates as “contact persons 1” who should go into quarantine. The Oberstdorf organizers then excluded the Poles from qualifying for the opening competition.

The Polish media and Eurosport are reporting on two possible scenarios that Tajner and his former protégé Adam Malysz, the jumpers’ sports director, are now pursuing. Either qualifying could be repeated before Tuesday’s jump (4.30pm) with the seven Poles, or they could be admitted directly to the competition, which would then start with 57 starters and not the knockout system.

However, the decisive role would be played by the health department, which would have to end the quarantine on the basis of new facts. Only then did the Oberstdorf organizers come to a decision.
