After the CoV vaccine arrived on Saturday, the military will distribute it to the federal states tonight.
AUSTRIA. Tonight, the forces of the central transport management of the armed forces will deliver vaccination doses to residences, residences and nursing homes in Styria, Salzburg, Tyrol and Vorarlberg. The arrival and take-over by the medical staff of the homes is scheduled for Sunday morning.
“Today and tomorrow history will be made,” Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner said in a broadcast on Saturday. “Army soldiers will bring the vaccine to Salzburg, Tyrol, Vorarlberg and Styria – we are ready for other tasks,” Tanner said. On Saturday evening, the first delivery of 10,000 doses of Pfizer / Biontech vaccine started in Puurs, Belgium and arrived at the Austrian border crossing at Suben in Upper Austria via Germany around 2 a.m. The load was then taken to a distribution center in Vienna-Simmering.
Next vaccine delivery on Monday
The vaccine was received at the Herba Chemosan Apotheker AG sales office in Simmering. Vaccination doses are stored at minus 74 degrees Celsius. From there, around 10,000 doses of vaccine are distributed throughout Austria. More deliveries are expected in Austria from Monday and a larger one on New Year’s Eve.
Andreas Windischbauer, CEO of Herba Chemosan Apotheker AG, explained that only the first tranche will be deposited in Simmering. All other deliveries will be divided in the future between a total of 17 branches throughout Austria. According to Windischbauer, one vial is enough for five vaccines. Doctors also receive sets of vaccines syringes. When the vaccine reaches the end user, it should be between plus two and eight degrees Celsius.
First vaccination on Sunday in Vienna
“Each federal state can access a maximum of 975 cans here,” Federal Chancellor Sebastian Kurz (ÖVP) told a news conference on Wednesday. The first vaccinations in Austria will take place on Sunday, December 27 at 9 am. They are carried out by Ursula Wiedermann-Schmidt, president of the Austrian vaccination commission, and Thomas Szekeress, president of the medical association. Vaccinations are carried out at the Medical University of Vienna.
