Generally, the following applies: the third lockout runs until January 17 or 24, depending on whether you are free to test yourself. No celebrations are allowed on New Years Eve and many communities have banned fireworks.

Who or how many people can I meet or visit at home from December 26?

Strict departure restrictions apply throughout the day from Stefanitag. For meetings with people who do not live in the same household, the “1 plus 1” rule applies. It works like this: gatherings of people from different households are only allowed if one of the two sides appears alone. An example: my sister or my brother can visit me and my family alone at home. If I want to visit my sister, brother, etc., I cannot take my whole family with me on this visit.

How many people can celebrate New Year’s Eve together?

The “1 plus 1” rule also applies here, that is: only one person can visit another home.

Can I redeem the shopping vouchers I received for Christmas as of December 28?

That depends on what business it is. Basically all trading will be closed as of December 26. Only companies that sell important products like food, hygiene items or medicines (supermarkets, pharmacies, drugstores) can keep it open. But: all companies can set up a collection service (“Click & Collect”) between 6 am and 7 pm If the products can be reserved and delivered outdoors, the entire range can be ordered and collected.

Do I have to wait for the lockdown to end if my car breaks down on vacation?

No. Unlike hairdressers, nail salons, massage therapists, etc., service providers who “are not close to the body” can keep them open. These include auto repair shops, insurance companies, dry cleaners, tailor shops, and banks.

Can I go skiing during the holidays?

Yes. While indoor sports facilities (tennis courts, gyms, etc.) are closed to amateur athletes, outdoor sports facilities such as cross-country ski trails, ice rinks and ski slopes are open. Cable cars will be able to carry passengers from December 24, but strict rules apply here: gondolas and covered armchairs can only be occupied by a maximum of 50 percent. At least one FFP2 mask must be worn while climbing and queuing. Warning: scarves are not good enough here.
