According to information from the German daily “Bild” and the French sports daily “L’Equipe”, Thomas Tuchel is no longer the coach of Paris Saint-Germain.
However, there was no confirmation of this from the French master on Christmas Eve. The former FSV Mainz 05 and Borussia Dortmund coach had been in charge of PSG since the summer of 2018, his contract would have expired next summer.
The 47-year-old German led the club to this year’s Champions League final, where they lost 1-0 to Bayern Munich in Lisbon. At the national level, Tuchel again won the championship and, among other things, the Coupe de France.
“L’Equipe” reported that the club’s leaders informed Tuchel of their decision on Thursday night. On Wednesday night, the PSG team beat Racing Strasbourg 4-0, but is currently only third in Ligue 1, one point behind the top duo Olympique Lyon and OSC Lille. In the Champions League, PSG reached the round of 16 as the winner in a competitive group ahead of RB Leipzig and Manchester United.
Tuchel’s remarks in an interview published on Sport1 on Wednesday are not said to have been decisive for the finale. There he had stated, among other things, that he sometimes missed appreciation for his team’s achievements. He had made no specific statements about his future plans.
