2020 balance sheet: FPÖ as engine of ideas and controlling party in Carinthia – Darmann demands a round of zero salary for all the main politicians of the government and the state parliament
Klagenfurt (OTS) – At a press conference today, the leader of the FPÖ state party, club president Mag. Gernot Darmann, asked Finance Minister Blümel for real and effective help for the communities and evaluated the FPÖ’s work in the state parliament. The second package from the federal government announced by Blümel on Sunday is just a “drop in the bucket” for Darmann, as only 400 million euros in direct grants are unconditional and the rest must be reimbursed by municipalities. “However, € 2 billion would be urgently needed for communities across Austria in order to ensure the continued functioning of communities and the quality of life of community citizens,” emphasizes Darmann.
The head of the FPÖ calls on the federal government to review the aid package on time and provide the necessary funds in the form of 2 billion euros in non-reimbursable grants for the communities. “Finance Minister Blümel probably consulted with Chancellor Kurz’s marketing experts more than with real experts in the area of community finance. Otherwise, he would have understood that communities are now grappling with additional funding for childcare, elderly care, volunteer firefighters, the road network, associations and much more. The funds that have now been announced are better than nothing, but too little to help local residents. The municipalities already have a huge backpack to carry, so the loans or advances that have to be repaid are of no use. Municipalities also lack money for reimbursements, as lower revenues can be expected in the coming years, ”explains Darmann.
Darmann harshly criticized the rejection of the FPÖ’s request to the National Council yesterday for a zero salary round for all high-level politicians by the ÖVP and the Greens. “Hundreds of thousands of Austrians have to tighten their belts because they no longer have a job or have to work for a short time. Therefore, it is now a matter of decency that all high-level politicians refrain from increasing their salaries. After the rejection by the federal government of ÖVP-Greens, the state of Carinthia is now obliged to take the necessary measures. The SPÖ and the ÖVP should decide to freeze the salaries of state politicians along the way and with us in the state parliament, ”Darmann demands.

“The FPÖ was the engine of ideas and the control party in Carinthia in 2020,” explained Darmann about last year’s results. “With 176 bills in the state parliament, we have more than twice as many bills as all other parties combined. It is understandable that we were the hardest working party in the Carinthian state parliament. These initiatives, with which we want to improve Carinthia and move it forward, affect all important areas of citizens’ lives:
Social and health, initiatives for the economy and the labor market, improvement of the quality of life of community citizens and the situation of our local farmers, initiatives in the area of mobility, reduction of rents and housing subsidies or in energy policy, where we are massively in favor of the use of hydroelectric energy, biomass and Speak against solar energy and against wind turbines in Carinthia ”, said the head of the FPÖ.
Once again, Darmann noted that the FPÖ has repeatedly demanded the necessary effective protection of corona risk groups since spring and has made proposals in the state parliament. Unfortunately, many of these suggestions were ignored and some of the Prettner health officials smiled at them. Starting in Hebert, we had to witness a spectacular development, especially in nursing homes. If our proposals had not been ignored by the government, Carinthia would have saved a lot of suffering. “
The FPÖ also achieved important successes for the population. “For years the FPÖ has been pushing for mothers of severely disabled children to no longer count the childcare allowance as income. Because many of them were often unable to receive a minimum income as a result. This year, the SPÖ and the ÖVP have finally given up and accepted. Our demand for more money from the Difficult Case Patient Fund was also implemented. We were also the first to point out gaps in the emergency physician system in January 2020 – then it took months for the state to hold discussions and set higher rates for emergency physicians and better management as first steps, ”said Darmann . The FPÖ has also succeeded in improving all low-income Carinthians: starting with the 2021/22 heating season, the income limits will finally be raised to grant the heating cost subsidy. “The SPÖ and the ÖVP recently accepted this long-standing demand from the FPÖ.”
The FPÖ’s control work in the state parliament was also decisive this year. “We require specific audits by the State Audit Office to discover undesirable developments in Carinthia. After mass torts, subsequent chats and friendship were discovered in national companies in 2019, the FPÖ began more examinations this year. For example, we expect reports on Carinthian’s advertising for Lakeside Park soon. The FPÖ has also ensured that the fraud of millions in the treasury of the city of Klagenfurt is processed in a consistent and transparent way. At our initiative, the State Audit Office discovered all the deficiencies. We were able to prevent the million dollar scandal at the taxpayers’ expense in Klagenfurt from being hidden, ”concluded Darmann.
