After months of fighting between Republicans and Democrats in the United States, the way is clear for an aid package from the crown worth around $ 900 billion. After passage by the United States House of Representatives, the United States Senate also approved state financial aid along with the new $ 1.4 trillion budget on Monday night (local time).

Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said of the stimulus package that “it doesn’t go all the way, but it sets us on our way.” He criticized him for not providing direct assistance to state and local authorities as the Democrats demand. Pelosi announced that the requested financial support would be renewed after the accession of Democratic President-elect Joe Biden.

“It reflects a fair compromise,” Republican Rep. Hal Rogers said of the deal. President Donald Trump is expected to sign the law in a timely manner for it to take effect.

The package is intended to help struggling citizens, boost the troubled economy, and provide additional funding for vaccines and the fight against coronavirus. Democratic and Republican leaders in Congress agreed to the package Sunday after months of negotiations. In the spring, the United States Congress had recently launched stimulus packages totaling about $ 2.7 trillion (2.22 trillion euros), corresponding to more than 10 percent of annual economic output.

The new legislative package includes additional financial assistance for small and medium businesses and a temporary increase in unemployment benefits of $ 300 per week. All citizens below an annual income limit must also receive a one-time direct help payment of $ 600 per person. Additional money is also planned for schools and for the distribution of vaccines in the country. The legislative package, with which, among other things, the federal government budget was approved, consists of more than 5,000 pages.

The corona pandemic has also plunged the US into a serious crisis, both economically and in terms of the health of the country’s population. Around 18 million people have been infected with the corona virus so far. In absolute terms, that is more than in any other country in the world. Almost 320,000 people have died in relation to Covid-19.
