90,000 registrations in Vienna alone: almost no more free spaces on Corona’s test lanes

From December 4-13, 234,889 people were voluntarily tested for a possible corona infection at the federal government’s mass corona tests in Vienna. At 13.5 percent of Vienna’s total population, this is a very low figure.

But by now, the will to test should have changed. 89,101 people have signed up for the test roads enabled by the city of Vienna for the Christmas holidays (specifically for the period from December 18 to January 7) (as of Sunday, 7 pm).

At the testing street at the Austria Center in the 22nd district, so far, 50,783 people have signed up for walk-ins and another 32,766 for drive-ins.

5,552 people are registered on the test lane at the Ernst Happel Stadium during the mentioned period. Originally this test route was opened in the summer for returning travelers, but now additional access routes have been created with capacity for 600 more people.

Drive-in practically full on December 24

During December 23 and 24 alone, 35,369 people registered for corona antigen testing. Dates for drive-ins on December 24 are almost complete. There are only some available for the end of Christmas Eve. The registration website was temporarily unavailable Sunday night, on Monday some of the people queuing for drive-ins were simply redirected to walk-ins. The rush was simply too great, the waiting time was up to 1.5 hours. The walk-in test, on the other hand, only lasted between 20 and 30 minutes.

Due to high demand, the staff of Health Councilor Peter Hacker (SPÖ) are now advising where and how additional capabilities can be built.
