As announced last night by the racing team and the World Motor Sports Federation (FIA), the Briton will receive approval for Sunday’s Grand Prix (2.10pm / ORF 1) after several negative corona tests.
Hamilton tested positive for the corona virus twice a week on Monday and then had to go into quarantine in Bahrain. Thus, he missed the penultimate round of the World Championship last Sunday at Sakhir, where Williams’ regular driver George Russell replaced him. Hamilton was already sure of being the new world champion.
After the quarantine ended, he traveled to Abu Dhabi yesterday. Upon arrival they gave him negative, fulfilling the last condition to access the paddock. You can already participate in practice there today, Russell will drive again for Williams this weekend.
Hamilton said in a video of his infection Tuesday: “It was definitely one of the hardest weeks I’ve had in a long time.”
