The reins of the crown are tightened in Bavaria

In the second largest city in Bavaria, Nuremberg, and in neighboring Schwabach, exit restrictions apply: people can only leave their apartments for good reasons.

In Passau, where the seven-day incidence was again highest in Bavaria at 426 on Wednesday, such restrictions have been in place for days, and in Passau district and Regen district, where the 300 mark is also clearly exceeded. , stricter measures are applied, for example at school.

The Bavarian Infection Protection Measures Ordinance states that if the incidence is greater than 300, further restrictions on school operations must follow. Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) wants to get an idea of the situation on Thursday in Passau.

After a video conference between the heads of government of the German federal states with Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) on Wednesday evening, Söder indicated a possible further tightening of the partial blockade across Germany. In the coming weeks, it will be necessary to consider whether the previous anti-crown measures of the federal and state governments will be sufficient, Söder said. “The question is can we keep the country in this kind of half-sleep all the time, or if we don’t have to ever think again about going deeper and more clearly in some places.”

Seven-day incidence greater than 300

“This is not the time when measures should be evaluated now,” Söder said. “But my feeling is, and many citizens also ask me, that we should not shy away from being very consistent in the end, and maybe even shorter, more consistent than longer, semi-consistent.” When in doubt, this issue will still be faced, said the Prime Minister.

In Bavaria, according to the State Office for Health and Food Safety (LGL), there are six regional authorities in a seven-day incidence of 300: the Lower Bavarian districts of Regen, Freyung-Grafenau and Passau, as well as the cities of Passau , Nuremberg and Schwabach. No district or urban district is below the warning threshold of 50.

The situation is currently more favorable in Bavaria in Bayreuth, Upper Franconia, where an incidence of just over 50 was determined on Wednesday. Overall, 3,325 more corona positive cases were counted in the Free State than the day before. The death toll has risen by 97 to a total of 3,976 since the start of the pandemic in the spring.

93 percent of classes in classroom teaching

According to Education Minister Michael Piazolo (Free Voters), 93 percent of school classes in Bavaria were still in class in their classrooms despite Corona conditions. Four percent of the classes were trained in distance education, most of them in quarantine cases, the minister said in a government survey. The remaining three percent of the classes are alternate lessons, the infection situation is responsible for this.

In municipalities where there are more than 200 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in a week, classes must be divided, unless a continuous safety distance of 1.5 meters can be guaranteed. “I hope that the numbers in the exchange classes will increase,” said Piazolo. He referred to the growing number of infections nationwide in many municipalities.

To protect teachers from infection, the state government initially provides them with 300,000 protective masks. Depending on the teachers’ feedback, however, it will be seen if it needs to be filled out.

Söder welcomes ski lockdown

Prime Minister Söder welcomed the fact that Austria has practically put an end to ski tourism during the Christmas holidays. The Austrian government’s decision was “correct and understandable,” Söder wrote on Twitter. The CSU chief emphasized: “Even if it is difficult: safety comes first. Holidays should not become a risk.”

Austria imposed a ten-day quarantine obligation for all travelers from Corona’s risk areas from December 19 to January 10; tourists from Bavaria are also affected. The goal is to curb tourism to a large extent, the government announced Wednesday in Vienna. In Bavaria, cable cars and ski lifts are also closed until further notice.

Bavarian Health Minister Melanie Huml (CSU) emphasized in Question Time that small hospitals and specialized clinics are “incredibly important” for medical care in Bavaria. Therefore, Bavaria will continue to work to ensure that the federal government better compensates them financially for their role in fighting the pandemic. He also stated that municipalities should not have any cost for the implementation of corona vaccines. When the federal government does not contribute costs, the state will do the financing.

Economy Minister Hubert Aiwanger (Free Voters) highlighted that the transfer of economic aid to companies in general is progressing at a good pace. However, with the federal government still lacking the necessary software to help those affected by the crown’s protective measures in October and November, there are strong indications that payments could only be made in January.
