The current development of the so-called effective reproduction number (R number) can be seen as a sign of stabilization in the spread of the coronavirus: according to Friday’s update of the weekly analysis of AGES (Agency for Health and Food Safety) and the Technological University of Graz, it was in period 13. as of November 25 at 0.87, down from 1.02 the previous week.
The estimated daily rate of increase in new infections was less than 2.5 percent. In the previous week, the downward trend of minus 0.8 percent was not as pronounced, and two weeks ago this value was still clearly positive at 3.4 percent.
The R number of 0.87 means that during this period, a person infected with SARS-CoV-2, statistically speaking, has infected 0.87 more people and therefore less than someone else. Earlier in the week, Health Minister Rudolf Anschober (Greens) described reducing the number of views “well below 0.9” as the main goal with the greatest impact. Reaching an R-value below a factor of 1 is one of the deciding factors in suppressing the wave of Covid 19 disease.
The effective breeding number for November 25 (Wednesday) was also less than 1 in all federal states, in Salzburg it was only slightly lower, for the other federal states it was “significantly less than one”, according to experts. The number of new cases diagnosed daily continues to increase in all federal states.
