This is how mass testing should be done in Austria

Communities in Lower Austria will face a gigantic task on December 12-13. They must handle the planned mass tests, a total of 800 test lines are planned.

This decision was made after a meeting with Governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner, Deputy Minister Stephan Pernkopf, Health Councilor Ulrike Königsberger-Ludwig, and community representatives Alfred Riedl (ÖVP) and Rupert Dworak (SPÖ).

“Now we must manage to contain the pandemic,” Pernkopf said after the meeting. The communities are supported by the Red Cross, the Civil Protection Association, ASBÖ and the volunteer fire department.

The results will then be reported electronically and ultimately the necessary post-PCR testing will be carried out on the existing test lanes. Contact tracing is still used in Lower Austria.

The chancellor speaks of “general projections”

In the case of mass tests, it should be possible to arrange an appointment electronically to avoid long lines. According to Chancellor Sebastian Kurz, this electronic appointment system should also be used to vaccinate the population. In general, the experience of mass testing should help with mass vaccination, for example in the education sector for teachers, in the health sector for health and sanitary personnel.

Kurz says the next few months will be characterized by broad projections (ie: massive testing across regions, occupational groups, etc.) and restrictions.
