Try the streets of Messe Wien, St. Marx and the town hall; 1.2 million tests possible in 12 days

Vienna (OTS / RK) “Massive tests are possible in Vienna from next Wednesday, December 2,” Health Councilor Peter Hacker confirmed today when asked by correspondence from the city hall. The federal government is planning massive Covid tests based on the example of Slovakia or South Tyrol. The city of Vienna expects 1.2 million tests and wants to carry them out over a period of 12 days. This will start on Wednesday 2 December on three specially configured test streets: these will be installed in Messe Wien in district 2, in St. Marx in district 3 and in Wiener Stadthallte in district 15. There should be a total of 300 walking lanes with a capacity of 500 tests per lane per day. A total of 150,000 people will be tested per day.

Vienna wants to start testing as quickly as possible so there are enough visitors, Hacker says. “Nobody will take the test if they have to wait to spend the holidays in quarantine,” said the Councilor for Health.

The three test tracks for the mass tests will be installed at Messe Wien, at Marx-Halle and at Stadthalle. They are running in addition to the existing test roads in the Prater near the Happel Stadium and on the Danube Island near the Floridsdorfer Bridge. As with the existing test roads, the massive test tracks operate by appointment. There are hygienically safe waiting areas at the three new locations; the test lanes must be open 10 hours a day on “test days”.

Antigen tests are used in mass testing. If a test is positive, it is verified with PCR tests. The armed forces are responsible for antigen testing; Vienna could provide support with around 200 specialists from Vienna’s blue light organizations, Hacker explained. The city is responsible for clearing up positive cases using a PCR test. “That happens on site, with city staff,” Hacker says. Viennese gurgling tests are used here. The city is also adopting new measures, such as quarantine notices and contact tracing, through the Vienna health authority.

“The tests give an individual image. The pandemic has not been abolished, we have not put ourselves to the test, “warned Hacker:” Even after the massive test, no Halli-Galli is popular. “
