56 percent of Austrians are ready to get vaccinated against the corona virus. Upward trend. For the government, this would have achieved its objective. But why not look for a larger number?
Health Minister Rudolf Anschober (Greens) says the goal is “50 percent plus x.” And also: “The higher the x, the better.” Much depends on this formula. That means that more than 50 percent of the Austrian population must be vaccinated against the coronavirus. 60 percent would be even better, Corona special representative Clemens Martin Auer recently told the “press”: “Then we have the assurance that we can get back to a normal life.”
So 50 to 60 percent must be immune for the so-called herd immunity to be achieved and the coronavirus can no longer spread. The World Health Organization (WHO) assumes this value. But why is it so much lower than for measles, for example, which requires 95 percent vaccination coverage?
