The planned mass crown tests in Austria will take place over a weekend, in addition to those of the teachers and the general population. Health Minister Rudolf Anschober (Greens) takes this on. In addition, he announced that rapid antigen tests with positive results would be followed with the unambiguous PCR method for safety reasons. In South Tyrol, from Friday to Saturday at noon, more than 160,000 people have participated in a massive test that continues until Sunday.
Meanwhile, there were 6,611 new corona cases and 104 more deaths across Austria in 24 hours. Hospital occupancy fell slightly from 32 Covid 19 patients to 4,597 patients, but among these there was an increase of 10 intensive care patients for a total of 697 affected people. 76,883 people were considered active cases on Saturday, 239 more than on Friday. So far there have been a total of 241,962 positive results in Austria. Since then, 162,751 patients have recovered. 2,328 people died as a result of the coronavirus, according to Corona case numbers nationwide today, Saturday.
Start with the teaching and kindergarten staff
In the case of the massive coronavirus tests planned in Austria from December 5, Anschober sees the uncertainty of antigen testing as “one of the central problems.” He said this in an interview with the daily “Die Presse” (Saturday edition). “That is why we will test again if the results are positive,” said the minister.
As with the tests of up to 200,000 teachers on December 5th / 6th you should also be able to test the entire population over a weekend. “I think it’s the best so far, so: locked into a weekend with lots of testing options and heavy digitization during deployment to avoid waiting times,” Anschober said.
Meanwhile, the FPÖ demanded an “assurance statement” from the government, “that refusal of voluntary antigen testing will not have negative consequences for affected employees, but this should also apply to mass testing of the entire population,” he stressed. FPÖ social spokesperson Dagmar Belakowitsch in a broadcast. There should be no “additional restrictions on fundamental rights and freedoms”.

Good start in South Tyrol
During the “South Tyrol Testing” campaign, a total of around 350,000 people must be tested by Sunday. According to the first provisional results on Saturday morning, 1.3 percent tested positive, the South Tyrol medical company said. However, about ten percent of all participants experienced delays in presenting the results. This happened “because the email address or phone number provided was incorrect or not provided at all,” he said. Affected citizens will now be informed about the subsequent procedure, either by email or SMS, “depending on which information is correct.”
