Repair! The unemployed continue to receive a bonus of 450 euros – politics

The unemployed receive an additional one-time payment of 450 euros in December. The National Council decided on Friday.

Due to the current crown crisis, the state is now distributing an AMS bonus of 450 euros as a kind of Christmas bonus to the unemployed in December. As early as September, the unemployed received a one-time payment of the same amount, provided they were unemployed for at least 60 days between May and August.

At its meeting today, at the initiative of the coalition parties, the National Council approved a corresponding amendment to the Unemployment Insurance Law and thus fixed the new bonus. But there is a difference, this time it is staggered. In other words, not all unemployed people are paid in full.

Depending on the duration of the strike, between 150 and 450 euros should be transferred. Unemployed who receive sick pay will also receive a one-time payment this time.

Who receives how much

Specifically, people who have received unemployment benefit or emergency assistance for at least 45 days between the beginning of September and the end of November will receive a bonus of 450 euros. If you are unemployed for at least 30 days, it is 300 EUR, and if you are unemployed for at least 15 days, 150 EUR. The transfer must be made automatically with unemployment benefit in December.

If you are not entitled to a full bonus due to a longer sick leave, you will receive a one-time payment from your health insurance in January, thus requiring at least 47 days of sick pay for 150 euros, at least 62 days for 300 euros and at least 77 days for 450 euros.

Extended special regulations

According to the Parliamentary Directorate, the amendment also expands two special crown regulations in the area of unemployment insurance law. On the one hand, the objective is to avoid disadvantages for people in partial retirement due to interruptions related to the crown in their employment relationship or reductions in hours. On the other hand, the self-employed who have temporarily ceased their employment, but who are still insured as self-employed, must continue to temporarily receive unemployment benefits.

Opposition parties agreed

Labor Minister Christine Aschbacher (ÖVP) emphasized that the best way to combat poverty is to get people back in employment. Even in the crisis there are job vacancies and people are constantly being placed in jobs. According to Aschbacher, some suggestions have been incorporated into the new unemployment benefit. According to her, it will benefit more than 400,000 people. It has estimated the cost of the measure at 200 million euros.

Opposition parties also approved the amendment, although the SPÖ and FPÖ criticized the one-time payment as inadequate and insisted on a general increase in unemployment benefits in the crown crisis.
