More and more pharmacies in Austria offer rapid antigen tests. The Austrian Chamber of Pharmacists now publishes a daily updated list of pharmacies offering these tests. Results in minutes
Sars-CoV-2 antigen tests provide a result in a few minutes and are significantly less expensive than conventional PCR tests. PCR tests are almost 100 percent safe, but rapid tests are only 80 to 90 percent safe. That is, in some cases they show a negative result even though those tested already carry the virus.
A positive antigen test is suspected
A positive antigen test is considered a suspected case of COVID-19 and must be reported immediately to the appropriate administrative authority of the district. Until further notice, positive antigen test results should also be confirmed by a PCR test. Testing costs are covered by the federal government and are billed to the regional health insurance fund.
