The industry welcomes the continued progress made with the Renewable Expansion Act (EAG) and the advancement of the new grid reserve regulation
Vienna (OTS) – “With the Renewable Expansion Law, the pressure of time is great and the final stretch is already in sight. But it is an ambitious and complex legislative package that will now be approved. In this situation, quality should take priority over speed, ”explains Michael Strugl, Chairman of the Oesterreichs Energie interest group. “What we need is a good and solid legal basis for the expansion of renewables, which guarantees us long-term planning and legal certainty,” Strugl said.
The electronics industry views the current proposal for the Renewable Expansion Law as fundamentally positive. The essential aspects are the establishment of a differentiated financing framework, the definition of technology-specific expansion paths that ensure the simultaneous expansion of all forms of generation, and cost efficiency through market-oriented bidding mechanisms. Austria has set itself high targets in the field of renewable energy: by 2030, the demand for electricity will be fully covered from renewable energy sources during the year. These goals can only be achieved if the expansion of renewables starts quickly and in all areas at the same time.
Timely reorganization of the network reserve.
In addition, President Strugl welcomed the introduction of the new regulation on network reservation. With current provisions expiring in autumn 2021, there is an urgent need for action on this issue. “We welcome the fact that this measure is being advanced, we have yet to examine the details of the government bill. In any case, the regulation must allow the economic operation of those power plants that are essential to maintain the stability of the system and the security of supply, ”said Strugl.
Due to the increasing proportion of fluctuating electricity production from wind farms and photovoltaic systems, in the course of the energy transition in the coming years, not only generation capacities, but also networks and storage systems will have to expand massively. They allow the electrical system to be balanced.
