A major fire in the district hospital’s intensive care unit cost the lives of ten seriously ill Covid 19 patients, while five other people were injured, some seriously. According to the local fire brigade, the large fire, which has since been extinguished, broke out in the clinic’s intensive care unit around 7:00 p.m. local time for reasons that have yet to be fully explained, so Medical devices and oxygen cylinders at the scene have likely ignited the flames further.

A total of 16 Covid 19 patients had been in the now completely burned out intensive care unit. Romanian Health Minister Nelu Tataru (Liberal Party / PNL) traveled to the scene of the disaster that same afternoon and the Public Prosecutor’s Office intervened immediately.
