Vienna (OTS) – Since tonight, many shopping areas across Vienna have once again shone with Christmas splendor. The traditional lighting of the Christmas lights in Stock on Eisen-Platz in the city center – this year on a small scale thanks to Corona – was again carried out by Walter Ruck, President of the Vienna Chamber of Commerce and Mayor Michael Ludwig .
“With the Christmas lights, Viennese entrepreneurs are setting a shining example not only this year for a Christmas atmosphere, but also for regional shopping, personal advice and a wide range of products. At the same time, the Christmas lighting is also an expression of solidarity and optimism in our city, “says Walter Ruck, President of the Vienna Chamber of Commerce:” I also thank the Viennese merchants who organize the festive splendor in the shopping streets year year after year and sometimes they finance it themselves. ”Funds for Christmas lighting come from companies (shopping street associations), the city of Vienna and the Vienna Chamber of Commerce. Shopping street clubs receive a 50 percent financing.
“In these times, which are very demanding for everyone, the festive lighting must above all radiate confidence and hope. It is important that, despite all adversities, people do not lose their joy in the Christmas season! Right now, solidarity, charity and solidarity are the values that hold our society together! ”Said Mayor Michael Ludwig, who also highlighted the very good cooperation between entrepreneurs, business people and the city of Vienna.
New motifs and technology in shopping streets
Christmas lights symbolize trust and a pre-Christmas atmosphere. This year the shopping streets shine even more than a week earlier than last year, inviting you to shop in their festive splendor. In this difficult year, it is particularly important for Viennese entrepreneurs that customers buy locally and locally. In addition, there is new fixed lighting in some shopping streets, for example in Wollzeile, Josefstädter Straße, Reindorfgasse, Meidlinger Hauptstraße and Währinger Straße. In some shopping areas motifs have been added, such as in Landstraßer Hauptstrasse, Neubaugasse or in Aspern.
Vienna Christmas lights are designed and produced by different companies. The new sailing bow with a golden star on Währinger Strasse was redesigned and produced by the Viennese company Richard Lesonitzky. The star motifs on Meidlinger Hauptstrasse were created by LED Technology in Parbasdorf, Lower Austria. The new Christmas lighting at Reindorfgasse comes from Innsbruck-based MK Illumination, which is also responsible for the new production of the 120 blue light balls in the popular and well-known design on Josefstädter Straße. The wool line remains true to its proven design, the new light curtain was created by Blachère Illumination.
Modern and ecological
Most of Vienna’s Christmas lights are already powered by LED technology. By using LEDs, electricity costs can be reduced by approximately 80 percent. Another advantage is the significantly longer lifespan of LED lamps compared to incandescent bulbs. This ensures sustainable and resource-saving operation of the Christmas lights for a long time.
When the Christmas lights shine
The Christmas lights will be turned on starting November 13, and most streets will be illuminated until January 10, 2021.
