Corona’s stoplight commission ruled in favor of schools open to under-14s on Thursday night. The APA learned this from the participants. The decision was unanimous, only the Federal Chancellery abstained. The commission recommends the use of rapid antigen tests, the mandatory mask for students and teachers in class, as well as staggering the opening hours of the school. In view of the high number of infections, the whole of Austria remains in the red.
The recommendation to keep kindergartens, primary schools and secondary level 1 open for as long as possible is upheld, according to the resolution. According to the latest figures from the Agency for Health and Food Safety (AGES), these care centers are no longer the drivers of the infection process.
However, the Ministry of Education is recommended to take more preventive measures to allow the operation of the school for children aged 10 to 14 (a group with a higher infection rate than those under 10 years). In addition to rapid antigen testing and the requirement to wear a mask in class, the use of larger rooms and sports is only recommended outdoors.
