Brazilian health authority Anvisa announced on Monday that it had suspended clinical trials of the coronavirus vaccine from Chinese pharmaceutical company Sinovac due to a “serious side effect” that occurred on October 29. Anvisa did not provide details, for example, if the incident occurred in Brazil, where experiments are being carried out, or in another country.
It was also not stated why information about the October event was only now being made public. In the morning, the Brazilian institute for medical research butantane wanted to comment on the case.
Almost 5.6 million infections in Brazil
The coronavirus is spreading rapidly in Brazil. The Health Ministry reported 10,917 new infections on Monday. This brings the total number of infections to 5.59 billion. The number of deaths increased from 231 to 161,106 in 24 hours. Brazil has the highest number of infections in the world in the coronavirus pandemic after the United States and India.
