A scandal looms in professional football in Portugal. During the raids, the Portuguese judiciary searched the two main Lisbon clubs for evidence of alleged money laundering, tax evasion and embezzlement in connection with player transfers.
Initially, nothing was communicated about the result. The first division clubs Benfica Lisboa, Sporting Lisboa and CD Santa Clara confirm the searches, according to the Lusa news agency.
The clubs confirm their willingness to cooperate fully in the investigation of the allegations. The second division club Academica de Coimbra was also registered, reports the sports newspaper “Record”.
Portugal’s Attorney General’s Office announced Monday that apartments, offices, sports clubs and law firms were searched at a total of 29 locations. These are events that occurred in the years 2011 to 2014.
