8,241 new infections in Austria in 24 hours

On average, 6,042 new infections were added every day for the past seven days. According to figures from the Ministry of the Interior and Health, on Saturday there were 57,570 people actively infected in Austria. That’s more than the population of St. Pölten, for example: 55,514 people live in the capital of Lower Austria. Four federal states reported more than 1,000 new infections on Saturday, in Upper Austria there were even more than 2,200 new cases. A total of 29,810 test results were reported in the last 24 hours; With more than 8,200 positive results, the positive rate was around 28 percent.
The number of tests carried out so far in Austria has risen to 2,425,825 since the start of the pandemic. So far 147,220 people have tested positive for SARS-CoV-2, 88,273 are considered to have recovered.
3,006 people in the hospital due to corona disease
On Saturday, a total of 3,006 people were in hospital treatment due to Covid-19 disease, 2,574 were in normal wards. 432 patients had to be treated in intensive care units, 421 on Friday. Since last Saturday, the number of intensive care patients has increased by 63 percent: seven days ago it was 265.
