Innsbruck: Monday was the last day without mass restrictions in Austria. Since midnight, far-reaching measures have been put in place to contain the coronavirus. The “second blockade” announced by the government will last at least until November 30. Exit restrictions planned between 8pm and 6am Food closes, retail remains open, upper tiers shift to distance learning.

The new measures raise questions: When can I leave my apartment? Do I need a confirmation if I have to go to work at night? Can I invite friends to my house? The following answers to the most important questions about the second lock:

🗓️ How long do the measures apply?

The measures initially apply until November 30. The exceptions are the exit restrictions, which initially only apply until November 12 inclusive. However, they should be extended until the end of November.

  • Cover the basic needs of daily life.
  • For the care and care of those in need
  • To protect against dangers to life, limb and property
  • For the purpose of “physical and mental recovery”

The government cites walks, jogging, or walking the dog as explicit examples. Anyone still on the road after 8pm and before 6am, for example, to come home from work, does not have to present any proof (such as confirmation from the employer), as the Home Secretary emphasized, Karl Nehammer (ÖVP). You just have to make it credible to the police officers. This then decides whether to file a complaint.

⚖️ What punishment should I expect?

Anyone who breaks the night curfew can expect fines of up to 1,450 euros.

💑 Can my partner stay with me?

At the weekend press conference, it was emphasized that this was part of the coverage of basic human needs. This means that you can still visit your partner after 8pm and spend the night there.

In principle, this is possible, because there are no restrictions for the actual living area. However, the government appeals to the common sense of the population to forgo off-budget contacts as much as possible. According to the government, visiting friends is not a valid reason to leave your own private living room between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m.

In gardens, garages, sheds or barns, a maximum of a second home is allowed, the limit of six people (plus six children) applies. This means that celebrations in these places are prohibited.
