German Chancellor Angela Merkel has been advising the federal states prime minister via video link since Wednesday afternoon. More and more details have come to light in recent hours, reports the German Press Agency.
What to come: From the opera to the bar, many businesses and establishments close for weeks. Staying in public should only be “allowed with members of your own household and those of another household,” the draft resolution says. Therefore, citizens should also be asked to generally refrain from private tours and visits. Tourist overnight stays in Germany should be avoided.
Video: These restrictions may come
From November 2 to the end of November, citizens are urged to “keep contact with other people outside their own home to a minimum.” Therefore, staying in public is only allowed with members of your own household and those of another household. Groups of people who celebrate beyond this in public places, in apartments and in private facilities are “unacceptable in view of the grave situation in our country”, and violations of contact restrictions would be sanctioned. As Merkel and the country’s leaders have emphasized many times, schools and kindergartens must free themselves from restrictions.
That should be forbidden
Restaurants, bars, clubs, discos and similar establishments will be closed. The exception to this, as in the spring in the first crown wave, is delivery and collection for consumption at home.
In general, private trips and visits, even by family members, should be avoided. This should apply nationally and for national day sightseeing excursions. “Accommodation offers in Germany will only be available for necessary and expressly non-tourist purposes,” plan the federal and state governments in Germany.
Amateur sports and leisure businesses will be closed. These include theaters, operas, concert halls, trade shows, cinemas, amusement parks, arcades, casinos, gambling dens, brothels, swimming pools and amusement pools, as well as fitness studios. Cosmetic studios, massage practices, tattoo studios and similar businesses will also be closed in late November after preparatory work by the German Chancellery and state chancelleries to halt the dramatic rise in new infections. Medically necessary treatments, for example for physical therapy, should still be possible.
Hair salons must remain open based on existing hygiene requirements. Likewise, supermarkets must remain open in supply conditions to citizens. “You have to make sure that there is no more than one customer for every 25 square meters of sales area in stores,” according to information from the Funke newspapers.
To justify the strict measures, the bill states that the goal of the federal and state governments must be to quickly disrupt the infection rate so that far-reaching restrictions on personal contacts and economic activity are not necessary during the Christmas season. “Families and friends should be able to get together during the Christmas season even in Corona conditions.” As in the spring, this would require a joint effort. The German government fears that the number of new positive tests could reach 20,000 a day by the end of the week.
Almost 15,000 new cases
According to the Robert Koch Institute, German health authorities reported 14,964 new corona infections in one day on Wednesday morning; this is a record since the pandemic began. However, the values are only partially comparable to those of the spring, as many more tests are now underway and more infections are being discovered as a result. On Wednesday a week ago, the figure was 7,595. 14,714 new infections were recorded on Saturday, the highest level since the start of the corona pandemic in Germany.
On Tuesday, the number of infections per 100,000 inhabitants in the last seven days nationwide was 87. The previous week (October 20), the RKI had reported an incidence of 48.6 cases. According to the RKI, about 70 percent of the districts have an incidence of more than 50, eight districts are even more than 200 according to this information.
