LINZ. “Protecting the elderly and people in need of care has the highest priority. Thanks to the strict hygiene rules that apply to both staff and residents in Linz, it has so far been possible to avoid larger clusters in nursing homes. The case of the current group at the Kleinmünchen senior center shows that professional screening and accurate tests allow quick action. Safety precautions were immediately increased: staff work in protective suits and crews are responsible for each floor and are not allowed to gather. Unfortunately, we had to impose a ban on family visits, but this only applies as long as it is absolutely necessary, ”report Mayor Klaus Luger and Deputy Mayor for Social Affairs Karin Hörzing.
17 residents and three employees affected
Currently, 17 residents and three employees are affected. Therefore, the crisis team of the city of Linz has immediately initiated the necessary protection measures and has ordered their closure and the ban on visits. Ten infected residents are hospitalized, seven residents show no or only mild symptoms, and were isolated under increased protection at the Kleinmünchen senior center.
Immediate protection measures initiated
After several cases of symptomatic residents, the Linz health authorities commissioned the Red Cross to conduct a comprehensive assessment of residents and staff. As a result, other people who tested positive could be quickly identified. The affected housing areas were isolated as an immediate protection measure, residents who were not ill are also housed in separate areas.
240 people in Linz are currently infected with the corona virus. This is the highest value since February of this year.
