Corona virus: traffic lights in Carinthia could change again this week

Third nursing home in Carinthia affected by corona cases – in the state capital. Spitalberg Elementary School 13: Two students and one teacher tested positive.

CARINTHIA. At today’s meeting of the Carinthian Corona coordinating committee, the topic was the latest cases in nursing homes in Carinthia. So far, three Carinthian nursing homes and one psychosocial rehabilitation center have been affected.
Corona’s cases are new in a nursing home in the city of Klagenfurt; We already know of six residents and five employees who have tested positive. Tests are running here (environmental assessment), results are expected tomorrow.
Other affected nursing homes, as already reported: one in the St. Veit district (two affected residents) and one in the Völkermarkt district with six affected employees and eleven residents. Here we know that the contact came from outside and is related to the Globasnitz kindergarten, according to the state of Carinthia.
There are also cases in a psychosocial rehabilitation center in the St. Veit district (19 in total).
Across Austria, about ten percent of cases come from nursing homes.

Primary school in Klagenfurt affected

Again, an elementary school is affected. At 13 am Spitalberg Elementary School, two fourth graders tested positive for the corona virus. A teacher is also affected. One class was blocked, students were segregated as category 1 contact persons. Corona testing and follow-up of additional contacts are ongoing. Again, the results are likely to arrive tomorrow.

Older victims again

The age structure of the patients changed over the weekend, the meeting reported today. 36 percent are under 50 years old, 64 percent older. In Carinthia there are currently two patients in the intensive care unit. One of them has been treated for a long time, according to the province of Carinthia, it is “quite bad together”. The second patient is ventilated.
Members of the coordinating committee assume that other districts in Carinthia could be affected by the upcoming traffic light change this week.
Meanwhile, work is underway to expand the capabilities of the laboratories. An institute in Upper Carinthia will also be contractually bound.

New cases in the marketing and municipal authorities of the city of Villach

Last week, the marketing department of the city of Villach learned of three cases of corona, and now two more have been added. An employee of the magistrate also tested positive. There are three Category 1 contact persons in the office who have been segregated at home and have now tested negative as well.
