Reports of the expert commission on the management of the crown crisis in Ischgl
07.07 am: Seven months after the controversial management of the Corona crisis in Ischgl, Austria, a report from a commission of independent experts on possible errors is expected on Monday (1pm). For the report, the commission interviewed a total of 53 people, including those affected, representatives of the cable car and tourism industry, as well as officials at the district, state and federal levels. The city of 1,600 inhabitants in Tyrol is one of the hotspots for the spread of the coronavirus in some parts of Europe, especially because of the après-ski celebrations there. Many German guests were also infected here.
From the point of view of critics, measures such as the closure of bars, the ski area and finally the quarantine throughout the Paznaun Valley on March 13 came too late. The latest investigation by ORF and the news magazine “Profil” indicated that those responsible knew of the danger sooner than it was known. The state of Tyrol has always vehemently rejected these claims. Ischgl Mayor Werner Kurz stressed in an interview with the daily “Kurier” (Saturday) that the community had “implemented all the best of their knowledge and belief” that the authorities had specified.
In Ischgl, a waiter at the “Kitzloch” tested positive on 7 March. The next day it was announced that 14 sick Icelanders were guests at “Kitzloch” and three other people who tested positive for Tyrol had stayed in Ischgl. The bar officially closed on March 9. The next day, all the après-ski bars in the city were closed. In addition, the end of the ski season was decreed. On March 13, the valley, which was home to some 8,000 tourists, was quarantined. Even before the authorities verified the departure of foreign tourists, many guests left the affected towns. A study by the Innsbruck Medical University clarified the extent of the spread of the virus in Ischgl. According to this, 42.2 percent of the Ischgl population had antibodies, a world record.
Meanwhile, more than 6,000 Tyrol tourists from 45 countries have registered with a consumer protection association that wants to represent the interests of the injured party. Thousands of corona infections in Europe are said to be due to people who went on vacation to Tyrol. The Innsbruck prosecutor is also investigating four suspects for deliberately or negligently endangering people with communicable diseases.
2,467 new corona infections in Germany
6:21 am: According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), German health authorities reported 2,467 new corona infections on Monday morning in one day. The previous day the value was 3,483 after 4,721 new infections were reported on Saturday morning. Experience has shown that the figures recorded on Sundays and Mondays are usually lower, also because not all health authorities transmit data to the RKI on weekends. Last Monday, 1,382 new corona infections were reported in one day.
According to the RKI, at least 325,331 people in Germany have been shown to have been infected with the Sars-CoV-2 virus since the start of the corona crisis (data as of October 12, 00:00). Therefore, the number of deaths related to a corona infection was 9,621. That was six more than the previous day. According to RKI estimates, 276,900 have been recovered.
According to RKI estimates in Germany, according to Sunday’s management report, the number of views, or R-value for short, was 1.40 (previous day: 1.42). This means that an infected person infects 1.4 other people on average. The R value represents the infection rate approximately one and a half weeks earlier.
Additionally, the RKI gives a seven-day R call in its current status report. The value refers to a longer period of time and is therefore less subject to daily fluctuations. According to RKI estimates, this value was 1.37 (previous day: 1.43) according to information from Sunday. It shows the infection process from 8 to 16 days ago.
Munich exceeds corona warning level again
06.02 am: In the corona pandemic, the city of Munich once again exceeded the important alert level of 50 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in seven days. As can be seen from the Robert Koch Institute data on Monday morning, the value is 50.6 (data status Oct 12, midnight). The districts of Regen and Fürstenfeldbruck as well as the cities of Memmingen and Rosenheim in Bavaria currently exceed the critical value.
According to the RKI, the health authorities of the capital of the state of Munich have reported 12,592 infections detected with the Sars-CoV-2 virus since the start of the corona crisis.
Munich had already exceeded the crown warning value and subsequently implemented stricter crown rules. According to the city, meetings in public and private spaces, as well as in restaurants, are only allowed in groups of a maximum of ten people until Thursday inclusive. For events in closed rooms, such as weddings or birthdays, there is a maximum limit of 25 participants. In the course of hardening, alcohol consumption was also restricted.
Study: coronavirus survives on smooth surfaces for up to 28 days
5.49 am: According to a study, the new coronavirus can survive on smooth surfaces such as mobile phones and certain banknotes for up to 28 days. According to the Australian study published Monday, the survival time of the pathogen is highly dependent on temperature conditions: it decreases the higher the temperature.
Researchers from the scientific agency CSIRO found the virus to be “extremely robust” at a temperature of 20 degrees Celsius. At this temperature, the pathogen can survive for 28 days on glass, steel and plastic banknotes. However, at 30 degrees, their survival time was only seven days, at 40 degrees only 24 hours.
According to the study, the survival time of the virus on porous surfaces such as cotton is generally shorter: depending on the temperature, it is between 14 days and less than 16 hours.
CSIRO Director Trevor Drew warned on the basis of the ABC station study of the risks of infection from objects such as cell phones. If you touch such materials and then lick your fingers or touch your nose or eyes, you may become infected more than two weeks after contamination of the touched object.
The City Council considers that the accommodation ban “is not well thought out”
04:24 am: The president of the German Association of Cities, the mayor of Leipzig, Burkhard Jung, has spoken in favor of lifting the accommodation ban for travelers from the risk areas of Corona. The regulation “was not well thought out, you will have to take it up again,” the SPD politician told the Funke media group newspapers (Monday). “Because we have no evidence that hotels or bus and train traffic are hotspots. Hotspots are created elsewhere.” He hopes that the federal and state governments will speak again on the subject at their next meeting.
Most federal states decided on Wednesday that citizens of places with a very high number of corona infections can only be housed when traveling within Germany if they can present a negative corona test that is no more than 48 hours old. This should work for travelers from areas with more than 50 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days.
Jung also made it clear that the situation was dire. “We all have to abide by the rules to reduce the number of corona infections again. For example, it will not be possible to hold wild parties in the near future. We have to be disciplined and considerate again in the spring.” .
Chinese city of Qingdao: massive tests for nine million people
04.45 am: In the Chinese metropolis of Qingdao, around nine million residents will be tested for Covid-19 within five days, according to government information. The city has registered six new and six asymptomatic cases in the last 24 hours. Most of the infections have occurred in connection with the Qingdao Chest Hospital, which treats infected returnees to China.
Liverpool tightened the blockade
02.49 am: In the city of Liverpool, the highest of the three alarm levels is being declared due to the increasing number of corona cases. “Pubs and bars, gambling shops, casinos and arcades, as well as gyms will be closed,” said Mayor Steve Rotheram.
Britain introduces new warning levels
0.39 am: British Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced a new three-stage corona warning system on Monday. The alert levels are designed to better adjust restrictions for different parts of England. “Our main objective has always been to protect lives and livelihoods while controlling the spread of the virus. These measures will help achieve this goal,” said a government spokesman. Currently, the north of England is particularly affected by a new increase in infections.
Altmaier: No reason for a second general lockout
12:14 am: Federal Economy Minister Peter Altmaier (CDU) does not see the need for a second general lockdown, contrary to the demands of Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU). “We have learned from the last six months; now we know what is dangerous and what is not. There is absolutely no reason for a second general lockdown,” says Altmaier in the political talk “The Right Questions” on Bild-Live. He sees no reason or reason to think about a blanket shutdown or to make a decision.
