“Please calm down!”: Irregular start for the gastro register

The chairman of the group of catering specialists at the Vienna Chamber of Commerce, Peter Dobcak, reported in the morning of an initial “quick survey”, according to which only 60 percent of visitors said they wanted to register. As a result, Dobcak fears a drop in sales and angrily appealed to the remaining 40 percent: “Please calm down!”

Wild discussions with guests

In his initial feedback, the hosts told him about some of the “wildest” discussions with guests who didn’t want to reveal their dates. “People should come down please,” Dobcak pleaded for more calm from the customers. What if you give your name, email address, and phone number? “That is kept for four weeks and then thrown away,” explained the treasurer: “What else should the owner do with it?”

I hope to get used to it quickly

Many people would give their data voluntarily and without hesitation for the use of social networks or customer cards of retail chains. The current “initial stir of rejection” is probably due to the “small revolutionary heart of the Viennese.” In this sense, Dobcak hopes to get used to it quickly: “I suppose this will be more and more common in a few days.”

Dobcak confirmed that it would much prefer the registration requirement (it is intended to make it easier for authorities to trace contacts in the event of infection) than bringing a curfew to 10 p.m., as it is mainly implemented in the western federal states. However, he did not completely ignore the city government in terms of criticism. Because the regulation published on Friday is unclear on some points, for example whether the government obligation also applies to outdoor dining areas or hot dog stands.

No guest list at the sausage stand

In the office of the Councilor for Health of the City Council, Peter Hacker (SPÖ), it was indicated on request that outdoor canteens were included in the obligation. However, it does not apply to food stalls, as these are within the exempt take-out area.

The registration requirement in the federal capital applies initially until the end of the year. Hosts who refuse to implement the regulation face a fine. According to the City Council, data protection must be guaranteed. The authorities can only inspect the forms in case of infection.

Anschober: “Relief”

The registration requirement was received by Health Minister Rudolf Anschober on the sidelines of a press conference. The measure is above all a “relief in the management of contacts”, according to the head of the department.

After a first attempt at the registration obligation was withdrawn for data protection reasons, Anschober hoped that “now this hurdle has been overcome well.” The Health Minister also re-announced the Corona de Cruz Roja application, which has already registered 1,500 notices.
