Consequently, the 46-year-old man was in the monkey enclosure on Sunday morning to clean it up and feed the animals. Suddenly she was attacked by the 29-year-old male gorilla Malabo. The monkey said the woman broke both her arms, suffered a traumatic brain injury and injuries to her upper body.

Stunned by the arrow

The zoo team intervened and immobilized the silverback, which weighs around 200 kilograms, with a tranquilizer arrow. Malabo has been raised by caregivers since birth and is said to have been “close” to their caregivers.

As for the cause of the incident, the zoo said the security gates had been left open and that everything indicated “human error.” An internal investigation has been launched. According to their own statements, the police are also investigating the background to the attack.
