A three-hour meeting between the federal government and state representatives on Friday night yielded no concrete results. In a subsequent press conference, Federal Chancellor Sebastian Kurz (ÖVP) called on Vienna, in particular, to impose more restrictions.
Vice Chancellor Werner Kogler (Greens) once again appealed to the federal states to accept offers from the federal government to use the army and the police in contact tracing.
Vienna should take more crown measures
Kurz recalled that Vienna had about twice as many cases relative to Lower Austria, Tyrol and Vorarlberg, which had also faced travel warnings. Obviously, the vice president is not good enough for the federal capital to be required to register in the restaurant sector. He expressed the hope that further “necessary” measures would be taken in Vienna. Interior Minister Karl Nehammer (ÖVP) saw “room for improvement” in the federal capital and stressed that these assessments have nothing to do with the electoral campaign.
Fear of national travel advisories
The chairman of the conference of governors, the governor of Salzburg, Winfried Haslauer (ÖVP), said he was not indifferent to what happened in other federal states. Because I was afraid there would be a national travel advisory. If this were to happen on Germany’s part, it would be “a disaster” for its federal state.

Hacker: No “honeymoon” because of the election campaign

The goal is that no more than 48 hours should pass from the description of the symptoms to the test and the issuance of a warning, according to the Minister of Health. The contact person’s management of the internal environment of the infected person should take a further 24 hours.
Interior Minister Karl Nehammer (ÖVP) announced new police measures. More focus activities have been agreed with the state police headquarters, especially in the secondary market. “There is no tolerance for rules not being followed,” he said of bar meal service and curfew.
Nehammer testified that the federal capital Vienna was reconsidering and the risks were being taken more seriously. However, more efforts are needed together. The federal police are prepared for this and Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner (ÖVP) has offered staff.
Federal Chancellor Sebastian Kurz (ÖVP) emphasized that states are free to decide what measures to take: “The result is important.” Regarding Vienna, however, he recalled comparable cities like Munich, which would have improved if the incidence figures were much lower.
Praise for tightening measures in Lower Austria
In Lower Austria, he praised the package of measures presented on Friday. Kurz denied any disagreement with the governor there, his party colleague Johanna Mikl-Leitner. Consequently, he praised the situation in Carinthia ruled by SPÖ under Peter Kaiser with the lowest infection values in Austria as “excellent”.
