As of today, Friday, 1,098 people are infected with the corona virus in Lower Austria. An average of 130 new infections were added every day this week. In nine districts of Lower Austria and in the statutory cities of Krems and Wiener Neustadt, the traffic light for Corona was set to “Orange”.
That is why Governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner, her deputy Stephan Pernkopf (both ÖVP) and Health Councilor Ulrike Königsberger-Ludwig (SPÖ) presented stricter measures for Lower Austria on Friday.
Federal measures apply until the yellow light. From “Orange” onwards, stricter regulations are prescribed in Lower Austria. The presence of the public is not allowed at sporting events. Family members are excluded from amateur events. The Bundesliga is also not affected by this measure, where spectators are still allowed.
At other events, too, the number of visitors is extremely limited.
Inside Orange, only 250 people can participate instead of the previous 1,500 in assigned seats. If the seats are not assigned, the number is reduced to ten. Outside there are 1,000 instead of 3,000 people in assigned spaces, 100 in unassigned spaces.
Guest registration in gastronomy
As in Vienna, mandatory guest lists for registration are now being introduced in “Orange” in Lower Austria. The curfew remains at 1 am
“Only in the red districts the curfew is brought forward at 10 at night,” explains the governor.
Kindergartens, where operations will be carried out with greater safety precautions, are also affected by the new regulations. If it is “red”, children should only be sent to babysit when necessary. Mikl-Leitner also announced the corresponding measures in clinics and rehabilitation centers.
Clear regulation is needed to provide security for people, Mikl-Leitner said. “Everything possible must be done to control infections,” said the governor, who also announced strict controls on compliance with the measures by the federal government.
As before, when does the district change what color will be announced on Friday. The measures will take effect the following Monday.
“Risk potential” in sporting events
“We have to do everything possible to avoid another blockade,” emphasized Governor Mikl-Leitner. Because sporting events represent a “potential hazard,” they should only take place in districts near Orange with no audience.
“I know it hurts when you can’t cheer, be there and experience the tension,” Mikl-Leitner said. However, the step is necessary “to continue making sport possible.”
More than two-thirds of “sports and leisure” infections
According to the State Health Councilor Ulrike Königsberger-Ludwig (SPÖ), 69 percent of infections are currently due to “sports and leisure”. This was followed by the areas of “home”, “work” and “education”.
With the regulations in events (see above) must be accompanied by “strict controls”. “You can control where social contacts take place,” explained Mikl-Leitner.
In gastronomy, the measures provide for guest lists to document visitors. The Lower Austrian Chamber of Commerce (WKNÖ) will issue the specifications in the coming days, which should also be implemented in coordination with Vienna if possible, the politician said.
Kindergartens remain open, attractive for home offices
With the orange crown traffic light, kindergarten children would have to be delivered to supervisors “right at the door.” Parents and others are no longer required to enter the premises.
If the traffic light turns red, operations will be restricted. “Kindergartens remain open in any case,” Mikl-Leitner emphasized, but they should only be cared for by children who would otherwise have no possibility of care.
He also called on employers to allow employees to work from home in order to reduce the movements of travelers. The goal is to reach “50 percent of the home office” in the next few weeks.
In the red-colored areas of Lower Austria there should also be “restrictive regulations in clinics, rehabilitation centers and health centers”. In any case, maternity, childhood and palliative wards were excluded. “The situation is serious,” emphasized LHStv. Stephan Pernkopf (ÖVP). He promised a “stricter visitation regime in state clinics and nursing homes.”
More recently, according to Pernkopf, the number of hospitalized coronavirus patients in Lower Austria “doubled from 36 to 71.” 15 people had to be treated in intensive care. Therefore, Pernkopf announced a new Covid station at Gmünd State Hospital. In hospitals, it is important to maintain operations in other areas. “We want to avoid postponing operations,” he said.
“The number of reproductions in Lower Austria is currently 1.24,” reported Königsberger-Ludwig. Currently, “two-thirds of all cases” go back to its origin. However, they want to offer more and faster tests. For this reason, “35 mobile test kits” will be on the road in the future.
