“The state intervenes”
“The state intervenes where any insurance is currently coming out,” said Culture Minister Andrea Mayer (Greens). She also emphasized the safety of planning. She reported on an artist who has only confirmed two instead of 50 booked appointments. For her it is important to be able to cover a wide range of events: an international congress, as well as a small theater in the country, multi-part cultural events or concert cycles.
In the cultural sector, for example, it should provide security for rock or classical concerts, as well as for a cabaret series. Events in clubs and discos could also be included.
“The culture, business and sports sector should be able to restart as soon as possible, that’s what this new protective screen is for,” Mayer said.
Protective measures must be observed
If the events are already possible again in the first quarter of next year, the pool of 300 million euros does not have to be exhausted in the least. It is clear that only those events are covered by the default liability that are also foreseen as part of the protection measures currently in force. Mayer gave an example: You couldn’t schedule a concert with 50,000 visitors at Happel Stadium and then reap the lost costs by resizing.
It’s also about the background people, the lighting technicians, the roadies, and of course the artists.
She sees a “strong sign into the future” where one can think of unlocking again “so I can start over if possible”.
Today there will also be a related “Association Summit”. Köstinger thanked the many associations, also voluntary, that participate.
