National Council: inferred debate on the laws of the crown

FPÖ club boss Herbert Kickl received some calls to order during the debate in the House. They called it “Primar Kickl” at the government bank. The laws were passed by the ÖVP, SPÖ and the Greens.

The new crown laws were approved by the National Council on Wednesday afternoon with the votes of the coalition and the SPÖ. The FPÖ’s motion of no confidence against the entire government was rejected by all other parliamentary groups. Even the liberal desire to hold a referendum on the law did not find a majority.

This was preceded by a contentious debate over the new legislation. This time the target of the FPÖ and Neos attacks was not only the coalition, but also the SPÖ, because with their announced yes they also allow the new provisions on curfews and crown traffic lights to come into force quickly in the Federal Council. The parties attacked saw the clamor of the electoral campaign and the awakening of fears.

The first to speak was the head of the liberal club, Herbert Kickl, who delivered an angry speech to the coalition and the SPÖ in an angry speech to the coalition and the SPÖ, which the second president, Doris Bures (SPÖ), toasted with various calls to order. There was talk of a “parliamentary list command” or “X-Large destruction policy”. In turn, he testified to the SPÖ that “the black and green steamroller” would also clear the way.

Kickl refers to Sweden

Kickl claims the coalition is producing a “second wave.” Sweden had done much better without restrictive measures, but in Austria the government had left something like a trail of devastation across the country. The motto “health and work” or “health and freedom” should not mean or. A motion of no confidence was filed against the entire government.

The head of the FPÖ club did not think much about the support of the tribune, which was open to the public for the first time, where the people of freedom hung a banner “Stop the Corona Madness”. The president of the green club, Sigrid Maurer, was not discouraged by this and personally pointed out to Kickl: “He is behaving in an absolutely irresponsible way,” she told the president of the liberal parliamentary group, accusing him of contributing massively to the uncertainty.

The coalition will not be impressed by this. The government has come this far and will continue to earn the trust of the people. This also included relief measures already started, noted Maurer, for example, the labor foundation.

Neos criticizes the power of the health minister

Neos’ health spokesman Gerald Loacker was more cautious in choosing words than Kickl, but the message was no less clear. He spoke of a “law to block, block and write.” Nobody writes a law regulating curfews unless they plan curfews.

Loacker is particularly angry that Social Affairs Minister Rudolf Anschober (Greens) is being given too much power, that of the department head who has shown he cannot make a regulation correct. Loacker didn’t want to be pushed into the corner of the crown deniers. He described Covid-19 as a risk, but as one that has become a manageable risk.

SPÖ negotiated with the government

SPÖ club president Pamela Rendi-Wagner apparently doesn’t see it that way. She regretted that the government slept through the summer. Today, there are many countries with fewer infections than Austria. It is time to act; for example, she quickly asked for a winter tourism plan.

In Rendi-Wagner’s opinion, it is thanks to the SPÖ that a constitutional law can now be passed. She referred to the long evaluation and the successes in the renegotiations of the Social Democrats with the coalition. In the leadership of the FPÖ and Neos, he said that the SPÖ differentiated itself from them by taking responsibility and putting aside party tactics and the noise of the election campaign.

“Primar Kickl”

ÖVP mandate Gaby Schwarz tried to explain how dangerous the pandemic is by referring to a 32-year-old athlete she knew who had succumbed to the disease. His clubmate Martin Engelberg, who returned to the National Council on Wednesday, also had a hard time. Therefore, the ÖVP cares about the health of the Austrians. Because even the economy is not without health: “We are not stable assistants, we are concerned about health.” 30 million infected people around the world proved that a choice of words like those Kickls is expendable.

He would hope there was no “party show” but that the focus would be on the health of Austrians, Anschober said. The vehement attacks from the club boss FPÖ also made him unusually contentious. So he scoffed that “Primar Kickl” might know more than the health experts.

The minister believes that it is irresponsible to downplay the pandemic: “Whoever belittles that, can no longer be helped.” The first objective should be to keep the number of deaths and active diseases as low as possible and to avoid a new lockdown. The new law helps, brings more efficiency and better democratic standards.
