The processing and evaluation of coronavirus tests will be accelerated in Vienna schools. With mobile teams that go out in suspicious cases and collect samples by gargle test, it should be possible to get clarity within 24 hours as to whether the teacher or student in question is actually infected. Minister of Education Heinz Fassmann (ÖVP) and Councilor for Health Peter hacker (SPÖ) presented a corresponding pilot project on Tuesday.
There has been strong criticism recently due to the chaotic conditions at the school. It was criticized that too much time would elapse between the notification of a suspected case and the test and then again until the result is available. This is about to change: “We want the tests in schools and the corresponding feedback to take place within 24 hours,” Faßmann said. There will be a separate point of contact for this purpose, it is not necessary to contact the 1450 health hotline.
As part of the pilot project, four mobile teams will be established to go to schools; expansion up to eight is possible. The minister emphasized that the other federal states would also receive aid if they so desired. Scattered hacker Faßmann Rosen: Since the beginning of the crisis there has been “excellent cooperation” in the education sector.
