EC Red Bull Salzburg won the Red Bulls Salute 2020 in Kitzbühel against spusu Vienna Capitals 3-2 and finished that Third place tournament. In front of 360 spectators, both teams played an intense and engaging match at Sportpark Kitzbühel, in which the Red Bulls took a 1-0 lead and never gave up the lead until the end. The final between EC-KAC and Red Bull Munich starts at 6:00 pm

The Red Bulls competed in the same lineup as yesterday, so they had to do without Mario Huber, Lukas Herzog, John Peterka, Justin Schütz, Filip Varejcka and Alexander Rauchwald again. In goal, Nicolas Wieser was happy for his second appearance of the season. Substitute goalkeeper Sebastian Wraneschitz was also between the posts in the capitals of Vienna and had a lot to do right away, because the Red Bulls pushed hard on goal from the start. In the duels it was noted that this was also a final determination of position before the ICE Hockey League, which started next week. Over the course of the first third, the Capitals became more offensive, so both teams fought a tough exchange of blows. In the 18th minute, it was time for Tim Harnisch, who fired back at the Red Bulls after a solo effort to lead the break 1-0. For the 19-year-old striker, who moved from the Red Bull Ice Hockey Academy to the Salzburg pros in the summer, it was already the second goal of the preseason.

In the second round things remained even, both teams with tenacity in each match. Of the many stunts in front of the gates, only a few major opportunities emerged at first. In the 29th minute, Alexander Pallestrang simply retreated from the corner in the left side circle and surprised the Vienna goalkeeper, who had to miss the target from his point of view to make it 2-0. Vienna went on and made a good power play from minute 36, in which Nico Wieser parried some shots. But exactly with the siren of the second break, the Viennese Lukas Piff followed a blow in front of the Salzburg Gate and raised the glass on the Salzburg goalkeeper lying on the ground to make the 1: 2 from the point of view of Vienna.

Shortly after the restart at the final stretch (42nd), John Hughes did not miss the opportunity and used a cross pass down the right side to take the 3-1 lead. But the Capitals stayed and cut again in the 51st minute, Colin Campbell hitting a free kick from the left from mid-range. In the last minutes there was an exchange of blows with good opportunities on both sides. In the final two minutes, the Viennese played with six outfield players and created some risky moments in front of Salzburg’s goal, but Nico Wieser was always there and ultimately achieved the narrow 3-2 victory. Thus, the Red Bulls finished the tournament in third place and were happy for a victory at the end of the tournament before starting their national championship next week.
