The number of corona infections is increasing enormously in Europe, also in Austria! The Minister of Health, Rudolf Anschober, makes an appeal to the population.
In the last 24 hours, 621 new infections were recorded with 268 new patients and 12,584 tests (a total of 1,444,683 tests in Austria). That is an increase of 1.7 percent (in the last days always between 2 and 2.5 percent). Since early September, that’s too high growth for now, but not exponential growth. Over the last 7 days, more than 104,000 tests have been carried out, with a daily average of 13,200 in September.
This means that more tests are currently being carried out in Austria than ever, not only for suspected cases, but also specifically without symptoms in risk areas. This is one of several reasons for the increased number of infections, but in general, the infection rate in Austria is too high for the moment. This is also demonstrated by the reproduction factor, which is currently too high at 1.29 (Germany: 1.27).
The main causes are clear and unequivocal: many infections among returning travelers (eg over 1,100 from Croatia, around 600 from Turkey), many regional groups with a focus on private parties and bars. And a certain neglect that has spread during the summer to a small part of the population.
More speed is required for testing
“We already introduced the MNS in grocery stores, pharmacies, banks and in the health sector at the end of July, and in mid-August we anchored effective measures against the introduction of infections by people returning from traveling. Also effective measures against individuals and bars”, said the Minister of Health.
According to Anschober, these measures will also have an effect and “I have noticed that the willingness of the population to participate in an exemplary way, as in the spring, and to assume responsibility for society as a whole is increasing again significantly. that, I have confidence. “
“At the same time, we need more speed with some of the testing and contact person management by increasing the number of staff to strengthen the health authorities in some countries,” Anschober explains. The Minister of Health points out that the measures and ordinances of the federal government are always prepared and adopted by mutual agreement.

As in Austria, a significant increase in the number of infections can be seen across Europe: for example, in our neighbor in the Czech Republic, which reports more than 2,000 new infections, and thus an increase of 4, 4 percent. Or from a lower starting level in Hungary (plus 5 percent), Slovenia (plus 2.7 percent), Slovakia (plus 4.6 percent). Germany is currently much better (plus 0.6 percent, but recently significant increases in Bavaria) and Italy (plus 0.6 percent).
