The Robert Koch Institute announced 2,297 new corona infections on Saturday. Munich was the first metropolis to cross a warning threshold.
The number of new corona virus infections has once again clearly exceeded the 2,000 threshold, reaching the highest value since the end of April. In one day, German health authorities reported 2,297 new corona infections, as the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) announced on Saturday morning.
The peak of new infections reported daily was over 6,000 in late March / early April. Then the number tended to decrease and rose again in July. In August, the number of cases was just over 2,000 (2,034). The number of new infections found also depends on how many people get tested.
On Friday, Munich became the first metropolis in Germany to exceed the warning threshold of 50 new corona infections per 100,000 inhabitants in seven days. According to data from the LGL State Health Office, a total of 746 Munich residents have been infected with the virus since Friday a week ago. Mayor Dieter Reiter (SPD) wants to wait for the development over the weekend before taking more protective measures. Munich had already issued an alcohol ban for party venues and for Theresienwiese, where Oktoberfest would have opened on Saturday.
Six additional deaths
According to RKI figures, at least 270,070 people in Germany have been shown to have been infected with the Sars-CoV-2 virus since the start of the Corona crisis (data as of September 19, 12:00 am). According to the RKI, the number of deaths related to a corona infection is 9,384. Six more deaths have been reported since the previous day. According to RKI estimates, around 239,800 people had survived the infection as of Thursday morning.
According to RKI estimates in Germany, based on Friday’s management report, the number of views, or R-value for short, was 1.16 (previous day: 1.07). This means that one infected person infects slightly more than one other person on average. The R value represents the infection rate approximately one and a half weeks earlier.
Additionally, the RKI gives a seven-day R on its current status report. The value refers to a longer period and is therefore less subject to daily fluctuations. According to RKI estimates, this value was 1.21 (previous day: 1.15). It shows the infection process for eight to 16 days.
