Due to the dramatic increase in the number of corona infections, strict exit restrictions have been in effect again in Israel since noon yesterday. Schools, kindergartens and most shops will be closed for three weeks. They also had to close hotels, shopping centers, leisure centers and beaches. People can only move more than 1000 meters from their homes in exceptional cases. This second highly controversial national closure applies beyond the Jewish New Year festival of Rosh Hashanah and during the holidays of Yom Kippur and Sukkot. Strict surveillance
In recent days there have been repeated protests against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s coronation policy. Netanyahu asked for understanding in a televised speech. “The health system has raised the red flag,” he said, referring to the sharp increase in the number of hospital patients. Defense Minister Benny Gantz announced that the army would support the police with 1,000 soldiers to enforce the measures. The opposition harshly criticized the second blockade. The crisis has already hit the country’s economy badly. The summer unemployment rate was more than 20 percent. “This blockade is a mistake, it is a disaster,” said opposition leader Jair Lapid.
